If the candidate needs a lot of hand holding or a very structured environment, 
this is not the place for them.  Candidates MUST have financial services 
(credit card processing) in their background.  A good candidate might have 
worked at Bank of America, Intuit or Capital One in their credit card 
processing areas.  Manager called this position a 'Chargeback Analyst'.  

 

Prefer the person be ½ Business-Oriented / ½ Technical Oriented.   No coding 
skills required.  An ability to write SQL queries is helpful but not required.  

 

Position Purpose

 

This position is responsible for a full range of activities which ensure the 
operational effectiveness of Payment Systems back-end processing software.  The 
Business Analyst will be the functional expert and will serve as the point of 
contact between the business unit and HPS IT.  

Key Responsibilities

 

  a.. Elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements 
workshops, site visits, business process descriptions, and prior experience. 
  b.. Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile 
conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from 
low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests 
from the underlying true needs. 
  c.. Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal 
customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements and deliver 
the following artifacts as needed: Business Requirements, Functional 
Requirements, User Interface Designs, and Development Product Backlogs. 
  d.. Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously. 
  e.. Work independently with users to define concepts as well as resolve 
system issues. 
  f.. Drive and challenge business units on their assumptions of how they will 
successfully execute their plans. 
  g.. Serves as the conduit between the customer community (internal and 
external customers) and the software development team through which 
requirements flow. 
  h.. Facilitate and drive work to be done using standard project management 
techniques. 
  i.. Develop requirements specifications according to standard templates. 
  j.. Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the 
technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs. 
  k.. Act as the liaison between the business units, technology teams and 
support teams. 
 

Education/Certification:

           

Ø      Bachelors degree - preferably in Business, Finance, or Computer Science  
                                       

Ø      PMP certification

 

Required Knowledge:

   

Ø      Proficient in all MS Office products

Ø      Proficiency in MS SQL Query Analyzer

                                                     

Experience Required:

               

Ø      Five or more years of merchant acquiring bankcard experience

Ø      Seven or more years of business analyst experience in an IT environment

Ø      Detailed understanding of the bankcard dispute process including the 
design or implementation of system solutions to automate the dispute process

Ø      Detailed understanding of MasterCard and Visa chargeback rules

Ø      Detailed understanding of American Express and Discover chargeback rules 
is desired

Ø      Detailed understanding of all aspects of the bankcard industry including 
acquisition, clearing, settlement, funding, risk management, and interchange.


Skills/Abilities:

                           

  a.. Strong analytical and product management skills required, including a 
thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and 
translate them into application and operational requirements. 
  b.. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to 
interact professionally with a diverse group including executives, managers and 
subject matter experts. 
  c.. Strong organizational skills including the ability to utilize project 
management techniques to drive projects to completion and track issues and 
actions as necessary.
