Position : Sr.Unix Systems Administrator Location: Boston Duration: 6 months. Rate : $55/per hr *Local first choice. Certified preferred* Summary This role's focus will be on supporting the fast growing Red Hat Linux and mission critical HP-UX server enterprise environment. analysis, acquisition, installation, performance monitoring, capacity planning, modification and support of hardware, operating systems, databases and utilities, research new technologies and their potential match to business solutions. Ensure maximum uptime in all production environments Participate in monthly server maintenance processes. Primary Responsibilities Full maintenance of a Red Hat Linux and HP-UX Unix environment (roughly 50-50 split). Support development activities and projects as needed, provide consultation, technical support and infrastructure requirements for implementation of new applications Participate in new technology evaluations Development, support and administration of Red Hat Linux systems (AS3. AS4. and AS5.) HP Proliant series servers. Development, support and administration of HP-UX systems. HP-UX 11i.x, both PA-RISC and Itanium architecture of various models Build and configure VMs using VMware virtualization tools Identify areas for continuous improvement including process and process documentation Participate in on call rotation Trouble shoot system and storage related problems, recommend solutions related to systems, storage, and data backups to meet and improve the company needs. Assist in the presentation of information to management resulting in the purchase or upgrade of hardware and/or software Maintain knowledge of computing technology and application through continuing education. Document, Communicate, verbally and in writing, to third parties and internal users in the installation, problem identification, and trouble shooting processes. Maintain detailed records of communication, correspondence and responses to assist in planning process. Research questions and follows-up regarding computing, storage. Coordinate with others in developing solutions. Assist with the establishment and implementation of Biogen Idec's computer policies, procedures, and standards and ensure their conformance with company objectives. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive company and partner data without exception. Provide weekly written status to direct supervisor. Document technical changes as needed during implementation and modification. Coordinate special projects related to department and company goals, as assigned. Contribute to the positive team efforts of the Unix admin team and company. Performs other duties as assigned. Must Have: Four-year degree in Computer Science or other technical discipline. Five plus years hands on enterprise server support and/or relevant experience with a good understanding of specified functional area, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in the IT depart in a medium to large corporation. Five plus years experience as a Unix system administrator with HP-UX, Redhat Linux and/or other flavor of Unix. Experience with the following are required: MC ServiceGuard cluster and Veritas Cluster Server, Veritas Volume Manager, HP XP12000 and Netapps, Veritas Storage Foundation, Veritas NetBackup, NIS , Shell Scripting, ssh, sudo, VMware Server Virtualization, TCP/IP and Networking, SAMBA/SFU, Data Center operation Understanding of project management methodologies. Excellent written, verbal, organizational, analytical and problem solving skills. Great personality, good communication skills and team player.
