Very immediate need Job Title: Billing and Revenue Management (BRM) Consultant Location: Jackson, MS Job Length: 3 months Rate: Open *Job description: * 1) AAA Gateway/Diameter Manager 2) Resource Reservation 3) TIMOS DB Synopsis 1. Initial implementation including architectural design. This activity involves the gathering of business requirements by communicating with the Client to obtain business-critical data to accurately design and implement BRM to fulfill the existing requirement and set the ground-work for future expansion and growth. Extensive discussions are held with the Client to provide the Client with software development efforts to achieve the business requirements. The areas affected are BRM, the Oracle database installation and configuration, a variety of Client department (customer support, network operations, other partners [taxation and credit card processing], collections, account receivable, etc). I have contributed to the Functional Design Documentation, which dictates the over-all design of the BRM network and capabilities, Client interfaces, third-party connectivity to BRM, Credit Card processing functionality, taxation package configuration and usage, etc. My contributions to the Software Design Documentation includes: Use Case Specification documents [used for training purposes on on-site personnel], BRM software design to meet business requirements, BRM Client Tool operations and usage, database configuration specifications, connectivity between the end-user, BRM, and the database. 1. Migration of newer versions of BRM. Usually, on the older version, the Client has extensively modified the out-of-the-box version of BRM and added specific functionality to fulfill new or existing business requirements. These modifications must be migrated to the newer BRM version, which requires an in-depth knowledge of the older version, the customized portions of BRM, the newer BRM version, and the differences. I have performed migration duties for these changes on many occasions and usually ahead of schedule. In one occasion during this migration, the Client requested that I complete re-write the BRM related taxation package to better meet government regulations and perform more accurate tax calculations. On another occasion, the migration to a newer version of BRM involved these four areas concurrently: changes from the Solaris to Linux hardware platform, BRM installation on Linux, migration of Solaris customized BRM codes to Linux, and installation of a new Oracle database version for connectivity to Linux. 1. Performance and Tuning. Once BRM is installed and operational (including the migration of customized BRM codes), proper BRM and Oracle configurations are required to take advantage of new functionality and hardware capabilities. The most notable environment to which I extensively improved the performance of BRM was a Client that dedicated 16 hours for the daily billing process. After modifying the configuration parameters for BRM and Oracle, this same process was reduced to 2 hours. 1. Customization Development. During my 12 years of BRM experience, I have designed, written, tested, and implemented countless changes to existing BRM components and new functionality that improved operational aspects of BRM, fulfill changing government regulations, and provide improved customer interface, better collections, taxation, and payment processing. All software changes are accompanied by an associated Technical Specifications documents, Operational documents, and User Orientation documents. 1. Troubleshooting Each item mentioned above comes with its own unique problems, software issues, and operational difficulties. During my career, most Clients experience some for of the above issues, from minor operational problems (due to misunderstanding the BRM product) to catastrophic issues that have crippled the Clients ability to accurately bill their customers. Please refer to the “New Edge Networks” entry in my resume for the most notable troubleshooting effort. This was initially a two-week contract, where the Client was unable to perform billing activities with the current BRM software implementation. My duties were to investigate the problems and provide recommendations to correct the issues. I discovered many problems from network abnormalities, to Oracle database performance/configuration issues, to BRM installation errors. As a result of these findings, the Client extended my contract by three months, during which all of the above mentioned problems were resolved (taking their billing process from 16 error-prone hours to two error-free hours). As the result of this effort and to the Client’s satisfaction, my contract was extended to sixteen months to provide extensive training (to Operations personnel, junior developers, and to the Finance department) and perform development duties. 1. Training. Every Client has requested training sessions for their on-site personnel. I have conducted many such sessions to the satisfaction of the Client. The purpose of these sessions is to eliminate or substantially reduce the mysteries that BRM brings to the table and provide the tools needed by the on-site personnel to satisfy the needs of the Clients customers. 1. Team Orientation. Over the years, I have been involved as a team leader, as a member of a team, and working as the sole consultant. In all cases, the Client has been very pleased with the outcome of the project. In several cases, my services were requested to come-in after a group of consultants failed to properly configure BRM, install its components, to author new software aspects, and correct inconsistencies with new and existing BRM modules.
