MySQL and DB2 Database Administrator RESPONSIBILITIES: * Creates relevant monitoring software, troubleshooting database problems, monitoring the performance, consistency and space of databases, tuning database queries, and maintaining and upgrading the database software. * Database optimization through tuning configuration, queries, and indexes. * Works with DB2 team to insure cross-platform design and support capabilities. * Works with application development projects to evolve the database architecture and design. * Participates in the creation of development, staging & production database instances, and the migration of those instances from one environment to another. * Serves as the primary point of contact for advanced level troubleshooting issues, and performs hands- on systems administration as required. * Designs and performs, or automates, back-up and recovery processes with other support teams and ensures they are functioning correctly. * Plans and executes tests of fault tolerance capabilities, including: backup/recovery; replication; Failover and disaster recovery. * Writes database related documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary. * Work closely with Systems, QA and Development teams on designs, SQL development and performance. * Perform on-call support by providing immediate responses to high priority requests for assistance by the 24/7 Operations Teams. Provide after hours and weekend support as needed. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: * 5 years minimum experience with MySQL (multiple versions). Candidate must have deep hands-on knowledge of MySQL internals, monitoring, tuning, setting up and administering databases. * 5 years minimum experience interpreting data models and developing database structures for scalable applications, specifically web driven structures, data modeling and relational schema design. * 3-5 years experience with MYSQL High availability and MySQL replication. * 3-5 years experience with performance tuning and optimization. (Query optimization, index tuning, caching and buffer tuning). * 3-5 years Hands-on experience with multiple storage engines (i.e. MyISAM, InnoDB, Archive, etc.). * 3-5 years Hands-on experience with backup, recovery and upgrade procedures. * 3-5 years experience in Linux, scripting, (Perl, shell, etc.) and creating automated tools. * BS degree or equivalent work experience. * Must be able to provide 24 x 7 production support. PREFERRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE: * Demonstrated database design and SQL programming skills to perform troubleshooting and data manipulation tasks. * Strong attention to detail and willingness to take ownership for their domain. * Ability to diagnose and resolve a broad range of technical problems, including those not specifically attributed to the DB. * High degree of independence and exceptional work ethic. * Strong teamwork, leadership and collaboration skills. Team leadership or management a plus. * Excellent verbal, technical writing and documentation skills are necessary for interaction with other teams and departments. * DB2/ AS400 is a plus, but not required.
