JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Software Development Manager
Location: Rome,GA.
Duration: long term (9+ months) contract position.
Reports To: Director Financial Systems
Overview:
The Software Development Manager participates in and manages all phases of
systems integration and software development related to the Software
Project: overall project management and tracking, requirements discovery and
analysis, analysis of vendor supplied systems, general and detailed design
of projects and changes, unit test development, implementation coding, code
inspections, preparation of testing notes, testing support and production
support, with the general duties listed below.
The Software Development Manager is responsible for completing the software
project on time, on budget, meeting all requirements, and with high quality
and low-defect rate, by making architecture, design and implementation
decisions appropriate to that project, with the assistance of assigned
Software Developers, and using the shared resources of the DBA, Information
Technology and the MIS teams, with business process requirements/guidance
provided by representatives of the Sales and Accounting departments.
Although this is a highly technical role, the role will also have
administrative and managerial responsibilities associated with forming a
project team, developing the project plan and project schedule and leading
the team through its technical responsibilities.
Additional responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:
. Develop and maintain expert status in the managing the following
phases of software development projects: requirements analysis, risk
analysis,
architecture selection, third-party system review and selection
recommendations, technology and tool selection.
. Develop and maintain a high proficiency in leading, managing and
motivating other developers.
. Maintain currency in Oracle PL/SQL, Oracle Application Express, and
associated development environments and tools.
. Maintain currency in ancillary development tools such as debuggers,
editors, profilers, report generators, and so on.
. Maintain a high proficiency in written and verbal communication
skills.
. Stay abreast of industry best practices and new methods and
technologies, and constantly update our own practices to take advantage of
these new
methods and technologies.
. Lead the project team to deliver products at a highly productive
rate, with a low defect rate and low support costs.
. Mentor Senior Software Developers and Software Developers in the
above duties, which can include the delegation of lead/management role to
capable
developers.
. Work with third-party programmers, designers and project managers to
develop integration plans between third-party systems and internal systems.
. Develop a plan for supporting the Software components once they are
released to Production.
. Create and enforce technical policies including: coding standards
and practices, configuration and build management.
. Recruit and acquire new developers for open positions.
. Provide annual performance reviews to all Software Development Team
members, and provide annual goals for the team and the individual members.
