PROJECT SCOPE OF WORK AND KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER



·         As part of a code migration and re-plat forming project, SBCTC
seeks the services of a contractor with senior level technical experience
that will train and mentor SBCTC System Administrators in providing both
specialized administrative expertise for our HP UX Systems and in planning,
designing and managing the operational functions of HP UX systems.  Specific
expertise in HP Hardware Virtualization techniques for HP Itanium Server
Blades, HP SAN and Virtual Interconnects is required in addition to the
following:

·         Support multiple environments with HP c7000-Servers running HP-UX
v 11i v3.  Multiple environments include: Production, Development, Testing
and Quality Assurance.

·         Provide leadership in ability to keep abreast of UNIX
developments, practices and products that are best in the IT industry.

·         Develop, manage and optimize UNIX system administration (processes
and functions) required for support of SBCTC production and development
activity.

·         Configure HP SERVER BLADE, HP SAN virtual connects and tune HP
hardware and HP-UX OS

·         Configure HP SERVER BLADES and HP SAN for HARDWARE VIRTUALIZATION.

·         Troubleshoot technical issues by investigating  UNIX computing
platform environment, its servers, functional components, commercial
products, and developed applications

·         Support HP c7000 tools for service management (configuration, SLA,
incident, security, capacity) and for software development (compilers,
database/files, utilities, etc.).

·         Develop and implement Systems Management processes and functions
for the UNIX platform to increase SBCTC-IT ability to manage services per
agreements with its customers.

·         Lead and mentor other members on the SBCTC IT-TMS staff to adopt
best practices for service management, and to build /mature organizational
capabilities within SBCTC.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS ROLE INCLUDE:

·         Efficient management and control of hardware/ software for UNIX
servers.  This includes OS versions, patches, kernel settings, software
product versions and patch levels.

·         Efficiently manage the environment. This includes upgrades and new
versions so there are little to no impact to SDLC activities, administrative
processes, and backup and restores procedures.

·         Ensuring UNIX based devices in environments are configured
properly. This includes environmental validation scripting and execution.

·         Coordinating management of UNIX based devices in environments to
support testing at all levels. These efforts include directory structures,
database server instances, software versions/patches, supporting multiple
testers working with different data snapshots.

·         Supporting block point testing.  This includes Capturing,
migrating and reestablishing specific data snapshot instances on UNIX
servers required by test managers.

·         Managing UNIX based devices for effects from operational change.
This includes defining acceptance criteria for release of Unix based
functionality into production, ensuring training requirements for
operational management of HP-UX environment are defined, agreeing UNIX based
functionality / applications have been successfully released into production
by successfully meeting all acceptance criteria.



MANDATORY EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:



·         BA or BS Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information
Systems, or in lieu of a degree more than four years demonstrable work
experience is required

·         2 – 3  years work experience as Senior UNIX System Administrator

·         Demonstrated expertise with HP-UX platforms

·         Hands-on experience with architecting UNIX system storage and
servers, technical design of UNIX environment and components

·         Hands-on experience with HARDWARE BLADE & SAN VIRTUALIZATION on HP
UX systems.

·         Hands-on experience with HP VIRTUAL interconnects including
Network and SAN switch interfaces.

·         Capable of mentoring HP e3000 System Administrators in best
practices for HP UX hardware/software configuration management and UNIX
system administration.



KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:



·         Configuring and tuning HP-UX operating system and devices
(including SAN)

·         Configuring and managing HP Hardware Virtualization and Virtual
Interconnects

·         Administration of UNIX software utilities

·         System administrator experience in large multi-server/multi vendor
environments

·         Leadership of large scale implementations

·         Familiarity with design specifications for hardware, OS, security,
networking, and software configurations for HP Itanium c7000 UX systems and
HP SAN systems.

·         Mid-level expertise and understanding of complex networks and data
communications environment;

·         Participate, lead, and collaboratively troubleshoot systems for
UNIX services and support.

·         UNIX security setup and management

·         HP e3000 MPE environment setup and management experience a plus
