Oracle DBA Job Description Install Oracle database management software over various OS platforms, including Red Hat Linux, SUN, HP-UX and windows. Create, edit and execute scripts to process data, monitor database performance or assist developers. Create, edits and maintains database schemas. Create database instances to include control files, redo logs, archive log mode and other required parameters. Integrate database management systems and data with existing application software, web sites, portals, storage devices or business applications. Recover from database failures, database management system and data using Oracle RMAN and FLASHBACK or other designated recovery utilities. Read/ interpret database error messages and execute recovery of database instance, data or other pertinent database components. If necessary, engage Oracle support by submitting and monitoring the status of an Oracle Service Request via Metalink. Remotely administer database instances using secure shell, KVM over IP and other remote access tools. Implement DOD, DON, and Marine Corps mandated upgrades and security patches to the Database Management System Software, to include quarterly Critical Patch Updates. Analyze database error messages/alert logs and implement corrective actions to resolve issues. Design, manage, implement and configure Logical Units Numbers, file systems, disks, zones and other storage medial on various storage devices in a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID). Implement shared database file systems in a SAN environment. Utilize Oracle Enterprise Manager or other designated tools to monitor and maintain the database environment. Required Skills Five to ten years experience managing oracle application and databases in an enterprise environment. 5 years experience working daily with Oracle database operation, performance tuning and troubleshooting. Experience with at least Oracle 9i and 10g. Ideally have experience from Oracle version 7 through 10. Be proficient with Windows and Linux based operating systems. Candidate must demonstrate a strong, professional work ethic. The candidate must demonstrate successful leadership and customer service skills.
