Position Title: Oracle Database & Application Server Administrator
Purpose:
Oracle Database & Application Server Administrator provides expertise
in
the areas of database & application server installation, maintenance,
support and administration.
General Duties:
. Participate in 24 x 7 on-call rotation to respond and resolve
critical
issues.
. Research issues & open service requests with external support
providers.
. Serve as escalation point for technical issues from other
teams.
. Install, patch, and upgrade Oracle database & application
server
software.
. Create new databases and application servers.
. Configure the application server components such as OPMN,
DCM, HTTP,
OC4J, Webcache, Oracle Forms services, Oracle Report
services. . Install,
patch, and upgrade ancillary software and tools (e.g. Tomcat, Oracle
Internet Directory, Oracle Data Integrator, Oracle
Enterprise Manager, etc.)
. Configure and maintain monitoring for databases and
application servers.
. Write scripts to automate administrative tasks and backups.
 Manage daily and weekly database backups.
. Restore databases and application servers when needed,
including in
scheduled offsite disaster recovery tests & to refresh non-production
environments.
. Interpret and support database, application server, and data
architecture standards.
. Develop, maintain, and document standards, procedures, and
methodologies
for effective operation, access control, backup, and recovery of all
databases & application servers.
. Coordinate database & application server related security
requirements
including basic education, user guidelines and access authorizations.
. Define and implement auditing and reporting necessary to meet
internal
and external audit and control requirements.
. Implement and maintain clustering & load balancing of
database &
application server components.
. Identify and recommend improvements to architecture or
procedures to
improve team efficiency and the level of service provided to the
business.
Background Requirements:
Required:
o Minimum of 3 years of experience in administering Oracle 10g
& 11g
databases in a UNIX/Linux environment.
o Minimum of 2 years of experience in administering J2EE
application
servers in a UNIX/Linux environment.
o Minimum of 2 years of experience in writing scripts in a UNIX/
Linux
environment.
o Worked at least one severity one issue with Oracle support.
Preferred:
o Experience in writing & supporting J2EE application code or
ability to
demonstrate thorough knowledge of object oriented programming
concepts.
o Experience supporting Oracle Application 10g and/or 11g
servers.
o Experience in SSO, OID and LDAP technologies.
o Certification in Oracle Application Server and/or Oracle
Database
Administration.
o Experience working in virtualized environments
