*Job Responsibilities
Describe the main job responsibilities of the position, indicating the
percentage of time spent for each.
• Resources needed to assist in hardware evaluation, infrastructure builds,
integration and deployment of new software and databases. Cross work stream
resource.
• UNIX SUPPORT: Provide UNIX system and servers support to business users.
Includes trouble-shooting problems or projects related activities. Handle
escalated issues, and provide technical resolutions to on-site staff
members.
• ADMIN will provide onsite UNIX support for Fannie Mae Data Centers in DC
Metropolitan area PROJECTS: Work with guidance on several concurrent
projects in a highly dynamic environment. Assume the technical
responsibility on multiple projects simultaneously; interface with customers
in order to resolve technical system, application, and end user issues.
• INTEGRATION: Support the integration and implementation of UNIX systems
and applications, and provide operational support for same.
• INSTALLATION: Install and configure Sun Solaris Servers and related
systems; assist business users and Unix Engineers with the setup and
installation of their applications and tests within the UNIX environment.
• ENGINEERING: Work with other technical teams, gather requirements;
determine, document, and propose viable solutions against these
requirements. With guidance from Senior System Administrators, plan and
implement these solutions in cooperation other system administrators and
technical teams.
• PROBLEM RESOLUTION: Perform root cause analysis and determine cause of
problems in order to develop specific solution to an issue

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or
equivalent degree and/or experience
• Minimum of five years of system administration experience in a UNIX
production business environment with substantial knowledge of the UNIX
operating system, with extensive experience on Solaris 8/10, AIX 5.X and
Linux (SLES 9/10) operating systems.
• The system administrator will work on Sun hardware (V4800, V4900, V6800
and V6900. E15 K models), IBM hardware (IBM System P - P750, P770 p570, p520
, p550, IBM System X ----x346, x366, x3650, x3850, HS20, HS40, HS21. HS22).
Hardware knowledge on the different types of components of servers is
required, including assembly, defining configurations for upgrades. Will
configure and support multiple domains on SunFire midrange and IBM P series
servers and must be familiar dynamically reconfiguring boards and components
on these servers.
• Will perform tasks related to managing Disk Storage. This includes
using Veritas
Volume Manager command line commands to create, grow, and/or mirror new
volumes and file systems. Must be able to perform this work in accordance
with our standards and demonstrate the knowledge and experience with Veritas
and RAID devices to apply these standards.
• Will build , maintain and troubleshoot high availability clusters
using Veritas
Cluster Server (VCS)
• Run UNIX commands from UNIX shells, be able to operate in csh or ksh
environment, review or write shell scripts and understand general shell
scripting practices. Must have knowledge of programming or writing shell
scripts in languages such as Korn Shell, Bourne Shell, and Perl preferred.
• Set up network interfaces on servers, trouble shoot, and resolve network
issues related to the servers. Must understand basic networking items such
as Ethernet, ARP, and TCP/IP.Working Knowledge of LDAP, DNS.
• Experience with Remedy or other ticketing systems preferred
• In their normal duties the system administrator will be called on to
perform the following customer service functions: setting customer
expectations and working with customers to achieve best results; demonstrate
cooperative teaming skills to achieve results that cannot be derived from
the system administrator’s actions alone; and the ability to collaborate
within a cross functional team.*



22813 - Update from the manager:  I would recommend to add Web logic and
basic J2EE technology understanding as part of the req. Candidates need to
be familiar with the MVC framework, Web / app server functionality, struts,
EJB, jsp, xml, jdbc, etc: as most of our applications are J2EE based. During
production issues diagnosis, we are required to decipher what the web logic
error logs are indicating. So J2EE understanding certainly is a plus.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Application Support Analyst provides support for medium-high complexity
applications. May create and develop software solutions to application
errors reported. Escalates unresolved issues to proper personnel. Provides
senior-level end-user support, which may include: providing systems
administration assistance, coordinating stakeholder discussions, updating
user documentation or conducting training. 7x24 support provided for 23
Capital Markets applications on a rotating basis. Requires some night and
weekend work during on on-call rotation.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+yrs experience in IT support role
- Strong IT background and resolving applications issues
- Knowledge of PC usage and related software packages (e.g. Remedy)
- Knowledge of one or more programming languages.
- Experience with UNIX, Oracle, Sybase, Autosys, Remedy
Position Purpose:
Provide support to office or business unit users of proprietary or custom
application software. Answer technical questions,
troubleshoot problems, and guide users to gain productive use of software.
May extract data, format and run reports, or perform specific analytical
functions using application. May have substantial subject matter knowledge
of business unit discipline. Includes both staff in corporate facility
supporting use of business-specific applications to corporate staff, or
staff providing product support to customers using proprietary software.

Key Job Functions
- Study business processes in client or host unit and how they are
automated. Examine business processes in unit to determine how they could be
translated into requirements for IT applications.
- Develop data extractions or develop reports from requests or requirements
stated by clients. Use database, report writer, datamart, or specialized
applications to generate reports or analyses.
- May support application(s) in production. Note interruptions or bugs in
operation and perform problem solving exercise to
determine problem and ensure continued use of the application, or confer
with less senior staff attempting to restore job or report.
- Participate in project meetings to plan rewrite of addition to application
in production or being revised for release into production.
- May serve as project lead in project to plan revisions to application.
- Track production issues and report periodically to group charged with
monitoring uptime and efficiency of production application.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business or Computer Science
- 4-6 yrs. experience
- Experience with C++
- Strong knowledge of SDLC
- Experience with incident reporting and issues tracking
- Must be willing to work nightshift
- Specialized skills of JAVA, JAVA Applets, Desktop troubleshooting

hours worked will be during normal business hours.*
