We are looking for a short-term contractor to assist in creating, enhancing, and testing Java code for EOE’s major online applications. The contractor selected will work initially as a member of a project team to provide enhancements to EOE’s student and educator data collection systems, but may be required to develop, support and maintain other Java based applications for the production support group or as a member of EOE’s Longitudinal Data Systems and Race to the Top project teams. *Scope of Duties: * * * - The candidate will develop, enhance, maintain, install, test, debug and document Web-based applications. - Port code from development environment into production. - Actively participate as a key member of a cross-functional design and development team in all phases of the web development lifecycle. - Maintain, modify and enhance existing multi-tiered and distributed systems. - Diagnose and troubleshoot problems and bugs and design and implement comprehensive workarounds and solutions. - Analyze and convert business and system requirements into detailed system design and technical specifications and applications - Comply with project standards and processes related to producing high quality web applications. - Work with system administrator in creating and administering the project’s development, test, and production information systems and maintaining application availability *Experience and Skill Level Requirements:* - 3-5 years’ experience developing web-based Java applications in a multi-tiered environment - Strong communication skills are required. - Practical in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals of object-oriented design and programming; component design and development - J2EE experience including (but not limited to) JSP (and HTML), Servlets, JDBC, Hibernate, JUnit, XML Schema, and JavaScript. - Thorough understanding of the Struts Framework as well as related development tools and technologies - Experience writing moderate to complex SQL queries - Experience with object to relational mapping tools - Experience in security, personalization, and customization - Must possess exceptional debugging and analytical skills - Experience working with Microsoft IIS web server and Windows 2003 as a deployment environment. - Be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize appropriately. - Experience developing in an environment with high availability and short project timelines - Experience troubleshooting in a production environment - Strong team player. - Demonstrated discipline, self-reliance, dependability, and good judgment. - Good oral and written communications skills. *Preferred Qualifications:* * * - Single sign-on experience is a plus - Knowledge of Weblogic 9.0 and above. - Experience deploying applications in a clustered environment. - Experience developing applications interfacing with Oracle 10G - Experience working on K-12 education projects, especially previous experience at ESE and understanding of ESE systems *Other Notes:* * * The contract may be extended if additional funding is granted by the state and contractor performance is satisfactory.
