a) What specific qualifications are needed to perform required duties? DBMS Internals- demonstrate expertise of the SQL Server DBMS internals to setup, customize, and upgrade database systems. As a Data Base Administration must be able to design multiple databases of a complex nature and can create one from the ground up and have developed backup/recovery and security procedures. Along with working knowledge of more than one database system and can provide enterprise-level support for them. As listed below an individual must be able to perform and have: Problem solving skills - Independently resolve difficult problems and implement solutions considering both short and long term implications of solution. Operating Systems skills - must be able to use commands of UNIX operating systems to maximize database capabilities when doing physical database design. Client Service - must be able to use a high level of client/user sensitivity and insight into business issues. Plan for and address increase or changes in user needs. Communicate to client and management project status. Oral Communications - Communicate with users, staff, and top management to ensure mutual understanding of project requirements. Sometimes delivers presentations to users and management on database design. Teamwork -Think strategically in team sessions and help other team members understand the long term aspects of their project. Participate in and lead mission critical project and task teams Technology Industry Knowledge - Apply new technology and awareness of technical trends to projects and departmental systems and architecture. Evaluate and recommend new technology for projects and departmental systems. Attend industry seminars and forums. Written Communication -Write status reports, documentation, and other written communication relating to necessary program deliverables. b) How will someone benefit professionally from working in your division? Latest technology, variety of opportunities available for data design, database creation/maintenance, DBMS installation, performance/tuning, and have knowledge of any other DBMS(s) would be a plus. c) After one year, what would you hope the person that fills this position would accomplish?
