*Minimum Requirements: Ideally, the candidate will have worked on such a project in the past. At the very least, the person will need to be very familiar with web technologies, processes, and features, such as: - HTML itself, and the parsing of HTML (such as is done by browsers) - XML - XSLT - Flash - Javascript - RSS - Strong C++ Additionally, the candidate will need strong C++ skills, as that is the core language of the existing buildout of the crawling platform. Description: The project is to build a web crawler. The app we are creating will pull down very specific [new] files from specific sites. For example, when MSFT posts their most recent earnings report on their company site, the crawler will be expected to detect the presence of the new file, and download it. What is done with those files after they have been pulled down (e.g. - extraction of specific datapoints) will not be within the scope of this project. This project is only about the crawling. As such, logical activities of the crawling platform will be: - Scheduling of crawlings events - Crawling: Going out to sites and downloading files.
