I believe that there is a sequence of 'rm' commands that can effectively
drop the
database. Heavier guns that should be used with care by a novice DBA are:
format, newfs, fdisk, parted, NVRAM formatting utilities or SCSI controller
formatting utilities, or read/write disk surface testing utilities. Running
read/write disk surface analysis will almost certainly destroy any database
file
located on that drive.

If the database was created with the dbassist utility, I believe there is a
button to click to drop a database. In 8.1.5 it did not work very well, as
I found it difficult to
create a new database with the same name as the one I "deleted". There is
a little more to this than removing the datafiles, to really obliterate it
from your system you need to
remove all subdirectories with the instance name, modify the configuration
files such as oratab and listener.ora .

Hello all,

Sorry to ask what might be a dumb question, but a friend wants to drop a
test database (Solaris/Oracle 8.1.7) and I can't seem to find the right
command(s).

Would it be a series of alter database drop xxx?

Thanks for any help.

Woody
