This one kind of annoys me. On some of my installs I need
it and on some I don't. Obviously it comes down to how Oracle
makes the damn thing after the fact. I did not perform most
of the installs here but we have one case where I have the
database running on service guard and we failed it over the other
day and I had to go set the parameters because on the second
node I needed it but on the primary node I did not. Annoying.
Granted I could just set it everywhere but I got other things
to do like practice my yo-yoing.

Try setting one of the two following environment parameters:

    SHLIB_PATH
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH

In either case they should point to $ORACLE_HOME/lib:/usr/lib

would anyone have an idea as to what would cause and how to fix the
following
error message?:

ld.so.1: sqlplus: fatal: libclntsh.so.1.0: open failed: no such file or
directory

I can execute a sqlplus command from the command line but when the sqlplus
command is executed from Oracle Applications (no one specific sqlplus
command)
it errors with the above error.

we're running Oracle 8.0.5.2.1 on Sun Solaris 7

no ORA- errors are generated and there is no mention of a problem in the
alert
log...also, no patches or upgrades have been done on this server for at
least 6
months...

any assistance is greatly appreciated...

thanks in advance....Roy
