I've been testing quite a lot about it. First you need to know that the
configuration is different in each platform. And some of them don't support
async. F.e., in AIX you set two kernel parameters and init.ora parameter, in
Hp-Ux you need to create the device, change a kernel
parameter.......................
Second, and referring to my experience, in Aix and HP-UX, the performance is
worse than without it or even worse with multiple dbwriters. In Sun 2.5.1. I
achieved a great performance. However Sun 2.6 and 7 doesn't give you with
async the same response comparing with multiple dbwriters.
Third, as I test it, I suffered several bugs. F. e., resizing a database
which has async.
