Alex,
If you make some of your tablespaces "read only" then you will be able to back them up
to tape one time after you have made them "read only". The system will know that the
SCN has not changed and you can restore them any time you need to. You can backup each
tablespace any time you want to because the data will not be changing until the next
time you alter the tablespace xxx read write. Make sure you "backup controlfile to
trace" each time you make a change to the database.

Hello you all,
I have a large historical database and I partitioned by date range tables.
I don't which is a good way to backup old partitions, which I make ReadOnly,
in a way to be able to restore the contents from the time I put them in
ReadOnly mode.
Since the database will be large (800Gb) I would like not to backup all
database all the time, but only the current date partitions (this means also
tablespaces, because I want to create every partition in a separate
tablespace).
Do you know if this is possible?
Thx, alex.
