Absolutely, but the beauty of this syntax is it will give you the rowid for
the current row that was inserted. Now, if you want to perform some
immediate actions, this rowid is perfectly valid. In fact oracle forms use
similar calls when we set DML_RETURNING_VALUE set to true in property sheet
for items.
Using this syntax, it is possible to get values that were inserted in the
columns, but were unknown at insert statement execution. Your argument is
perfectly true and I completely agree.
