I would do the following, assuming you are running DNS server:

Do this now:
1. Add DNS entry for each Server.
2. Change tnsnames entries to be hostname, not ip.

Do this after switch to private ip addresses:
1. Change DNS entry for each host from public ip to private ip.

There are a couple other ways, but this is the cleanest. If you are accessing these
hosts from the internet, remember to set up your firewall rules/NAT.

Hello Gurus:

We are in the process of changing over our IP addressing scheme to a private network
behind a firewall. This meant that all out servers are going to get new IP addresses.
I know that our TNSNames file has IP addresses in it that will have to be changed.
What other places will I have to look to make sure everything still works when we
switch? Is it possible (advisable) to replace the IP address with a DNS hostname?

We are running Oracle 7.3.4 on HP/UX and OAS 4.x on a Sun Enterprise 450

Thanks

JG
