As many of you are aware, I am working with ODTUG to put together a Business
Rules Symposium as part of the ODTUG conference. Business rules-based
systems represent the next generation of database system design. If you are
involved in large project design, you need to be at the Symposium.

It will take place on Saturday June 23, 2001 in San Diego, CA, prior to the
start of the main ODTUG conference. Most of the major "players" in the
business rule arena will be participating. In addition, I have invited
several of the vendors of business rules products to attend and tell us
about their products.

Since ODTUG is still months away, very few people have actually signed up
for the conference or the symposium but I am guessing that we will get over
100 attendees for the symposium.

As part of the symposium we are in the process of selecting two
Presentations to be given 90-minute slots in addition to 8 shorter
presentations in the afternoon. These two expanded talks will discuss actual
business rules implementations.

We received ten submissions that qualified for consideration of the
90-minute slots. This caught me completely be surprise, I had no idea there
were so many good business rule projects to choose from! The way we are
selecting these two presentations is to allow all of the symposium
participants to vote for the two projects they want to
hear more about.

If you are planning to attend the ODTUG Business Rule Symposium, please sign
up now rather than waiting. The website address is
www.odtug.com/2001_busrules.htm. I must select the two projects by the end
of next week. You can participate in the selection process. If you sign up
for the Symposium before the close of business on Friday March 9th, I will
forward you the list of projects and you can vote for the ones you would
like to hear in more detail.

I hope to see you in June.

P.S. I would like to make a special issue on business rules for an upcomming
SELECT magazine edition. If you want to submit a paper, please contact me
directly at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
