Seriously,
step one is be sure you're using MS Visual C, as there are all kinds of issues in trying to get the libraries working with other compilers.  Step two is get it working via odbctst.exe.  If you can get it working this far, you should be home free.  One last note, file DSN doesn't work for me.
 
User DSN, data source name is what you want to call the DSN, kind of like the name of a database link.  The server name = the instance name that you would use to connect via sqlplus.  IE if you connect scott/tiger@test, then use test in the server box.  I didn't get the System or File DSN parts working.
