Hi.

How about using a simple 'reverse' function available with SQL ??

Here is an example from 7.3.4.3 :

Connected to:
Oracle7 Server Release 7.3.4.3.0 - Production
With the distributed and parallel query options
PL/SQL Release 2.3.4.3.0 - Production

SQL> select reverse('oracle') from dual;

REVERS
------
elcaro

And with 8.1.7 :

Connected to:
Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production
With the Partitioning option
JServer Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production

SQL> select reverse('ORACLE') from dual;

REVERS
------
ELCARO

SQL>

We played with this, probably undocumented feature in 7.3.4, to index
columns( since reverse key indexes were not available, so this was the
trick).

HTH..
