Hi,
Soon I will be installing Oracle 8i on various sections (LPARS) of
an S/390 Multiprise 3000 server. My entire experience is of UNIX on
Sun/HP/Alpha/NCR.

My main reservation is from the RAID-5 comment in IBM's Internal Disk
Performance white paper which describes:

'.. The Internal Disk feature of the IBM S/390 Multiprise 3000 Enterprise
Server allows for the attach- ment of up to 792 GB of RAID-5 disk storage to
the internal IO bus ..'.

Anyone out there have experience of this config?
Is it possible to use another RAID level config?
Any other gotchas for Oracle 8i (probably 8.1.7, don't know yet) on IBM's
S/390?
Any recommendations about sizing the disk read cache (up to 2GB) compared to
allocating that as extra Shared_pool and buffer cache?

Thanks for any opinions,

Mike.
