Thanks for the tip. Sounds right, but how much of a threat
do you think it is given the campus firewall, etc.? It would
only be intended for "internal" department use, at least
initially, so we could presumably use NT user authentication
for some kind of security (???).

For anyone still interested in the gruesome details of how this tar
was handled, see below. I'm reasonably happy with the results at this
point, but it does seem amazing how much time and aggravation was
involved in getting an answer that I was comfortable with.

Can all three run on one win2000 box:
OEM, DB, Forms web server ?
What I need is a statement elaborating on the same issues
as raised in tar #123 1449.996
My recollection of what I was told on the phone during discussion
of theissues in tar #123 1449 .996 was that as of db v 8.1.7,
it is not possible torun the db and forms web server on the same
win2000 box.
I hope I'm notconfusing something, e.g., what was actually said
previously was that you can't run the db v 8.1.7 and *OEM* on the
same win2000 box.
Please provide info onpertinent notes, white papers, etc., if
possible.

I think for the forms server / database running on the same box ,
the best group to talk to
would be the forms group.

Forms 6.0.8.10.3 (Patch 1), 6.0.8.11.3 (Rel 2), 6.0.8.12.1(Patch
3A), 6.0.8.13, (Patch 4) are certified
for
windows 2000. forms 6.0.8.12.1 (Patch 3) has been withdrawn for the
8.1.7 database. The check any
other
certified products for oracle you can go to metalink.oracle.com
Then go to product lifcycle and
certifications
the verify and product certifications for any platform.

OEM 2.2 and 8.1.7 enterprize editions can live together on the same
machine in the same Oracle_home.
Developer 6i can reside on the same machine but has to be installed
into a seperate oracle home.
Intelegent agent comes with 8.1.7 and does not need to be installed
from OEM.

Idon't think I would want to run Developer6i (to develop a form) on
the same
server box, but I would want to use the "webified" version of such
a form on
the same box.
So, part of the original question remains: can the Forms
*web*server run on
the same box as DB (&/or OEM)?
In the previous tar, I was told(verbally) that it is *not* possible
to run the
equivalent of WebDB and DB8.1.7on the same box, but I wanted
"written"
clarification of that point.
As youmight notice if you read the previous tar on this subject,
I'm not
currentlyusing these products (and therefor may not be using the
precise
terminologythat Oracle Tech Support is comfortable with), we are
doing design
and capacityplanning for a small application, and I want to know if
I will
need more thanone NT server to implemented a "webified"
database/forms
implementation,v8.1.7.
My recollection is that with DB8.1.6, and earlier, with WebDB/etc.,

possible to run on one server box, but that as of DB8.1.7, the
product that

OEM is installed with the database in its oracle home.
Portal30, the replacement for webdb, resides in the database, not
the filesystem.
I have it all on my box.

The previous tar is hard closed.
We don't open hard closed tars.
If you want to talk to the database group open an new tar to that
group.
but apparently the info you recieved and what is causing the
confusion, was incorrect.
The answer you seek is this
IAS 1.0.2.x can reside on the same machine as the database as long
as it resides in a seperate oracle
home.
IAS 1.0.2.1 AND IDS 1.0.2.3(INTERNET DEVELOPMENT SUITE) can live
together on the same box
but must be installed in seperate homes from each other as well as
the database. That would mean 3
seperate oracle homes. One for ias one for ids and one for the
database. OEM 2.2 will reside in the
database oracle home. You will need the enterprize editions for oem
and the database 8.1.7.

Again,I'm not sure if that means I need to get a second NT server
besides the db server to run Portal30, or not.

I should not have said that it is only in the database.
portal needs to be installed on the machine that contains the
server.
It is all part of the ias package and install
when it installs it will create a oracle\isuites directory that
does contain some of the configuration files.
mostly for the apache listener. which is required
but the actual product resides in the database.
the database can be on the same machine/seperate home, as ias, but
that may cause performace issues if
many users are hitting the application. if there is a small
userbase then one machine would be ok.
as I said before I have it all on one box and run it just fine.
Recomend that you increase the memory to 640mb of ram minimum if
your going to run a database and
ias.
