Jothish,
Maxdatafiles is not an init.ora parameter so you won't
find it in v$parameter. Backup the controlfile to
trace and you should see your new setting for
maxdatafiles.
Were you perhaps thinking of the init.ora parameter
DB_FILES? This parameter does not change when
maxdatafiles is changed, it must be changed manually.
You might want to review Note:119507.1 "V6/V7/V8:
MAXDATAFILES and DB_FILES Parameters"
