Mike,
if you know EXACTLY when you want to restore to, you can do a point-in-time
recovery.
No matter what, unless you had shutdown the database to do the backup, you
cannot just restart it. You will have to run recovery to some point-in-time
or archived log and then open the database using the resetlogs option. At
that point, I'd take another backup, just to be safe.
