Hi Joe,
 Here is a blurb from the 8.1.6 Concepts Guide (Chapter 11, under 'Prefixed
and Nonprefixed Global Partitioned Indexes'):
 
    'Nonpartitioned indexes are treated as global prefixed nonpartitioned
indexes'

 I ran into the same stupid question not too long ago.
