Paul,

Is the database you are trying to connect to listed in the tnsnames.ora and
listener.ora files on the machine where your console is? That is the only
thing I can think off hand - or maybe somehow the two agents have been
configured to different ports?

thanks for the info - puzzlingly, however, when I went to the server which
I'd quoted as being 8.0.5, I discovered I'd been mistaken, and it is in fact
running 8.0.6. The Intelligent Agent on there is 8.0.6.0.0, so according to
the compatibility matrix, my OEM 2.1 should be able to communicate with it!
The mystery continues...
