We are curently upgrading from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7.

We have currently done it successfully on our test and
development machines and are doing it on the
production machine this weekend.
We did not use the ODMA as we could use the manual
process from our client machines.
We have solaris 2.7

The steps we follow are

- Install 8.1.7 software.

- Backup database.
- Init.ora change
   Job_queue_processes=0
- create symbolic links in 8.1.7/dbs to init.ora
-copy password file to 8.1.7/dbs
- system tablespace to have 75M free space
- shutdown instance 8.1.6
- Modify oratab file entry to point to 8.1.7
- Upgrade DB
   set oracle env to 8.1.7
   startup restrict
   spool to some log
   run u0801060.sql
   spool off
   shutdown immediate
- startup normal
- varify functioning of database

Well sofar we have not had any problems
