Perhaps the O'Reilly Checklists book may be a good place to start.

Here is a short list:

Backup and Recovery of databases
Migration of data to and from databases
Security of data within databases
Performance of databases
Performance of sql being run on database
Proactive and Reactive support of databases
Procedures to automate work of database processes
Trend monitoring of performance and growth of databases

Generally in a nut shell, I would say bringing up databases, making sure
they run good, keeping them running good, helping good people get to the
databases, and stoping the bad people from getting to them.

when you criticize them, you are a mile a way and have their shoes."
