do you have an account ops$oracle identified externally? Because THAT is
what the / alone is meant to log you into. So Oracle is doing exactly what
it should.
You aren't..... / as sysdba gets you in so that you can do
startup/shutdown/recovery etc
/ gets you in to use SQL
