"Drop & Recreate table" or "alter table drop column". Which is

Hi Gurus,

If the table is empty & U need to drop one of the columns, do you 
1) alter table tab_name drop column col_name or 
2) drop & recreate table

I use option (1). Which is a better choice ?  TIA
