Try taking a look at pmap, it will show you a good break down of the memory
usage of a process.

can anybody throw some light on this:

when a process (bkgd/user ) starts, does it reserve memory (the memory it
really requires+additional buffer)

If yes, how to find out the free memory the process is not using.
