Ruth,
Is RMAN a purchased option? Does it come with the OEM management packs? I
thought it did but have installed those and don't see RMAN.

We use rman for all production database backups (except backing up
the
database which hold the recovery catalog). We do a leve 0 every
morning
before users get on and a level 1 incremental each evening before
batch
processing. These are online backups. We do a backup of our
archivelogs
each time and delete them.
We backup to disc and then put the backups on tape using the OS
backup and
recovery utility.
For other non-production databases we also use rman.
