I use JDBC, and I like it a lot. There is an OCI driver, which uses JNI
to map the JDBC API to OCI. The bottleneck is how fast Oracle can commit
transactions, not how fast JDBC can send them (YMMV). It is much either
to work with than either OCI or ODBC. The API includes prepared
statements, which is like using bind variables, it has a streams
interface to CLOBs, which makes them as easy to manipulate as files.
There's a "thin" driver also, which ships the JDBC drivers over the
network as you need them, if they aren't installed on the client. About
the only thing I don't like about JDBC is the way it handles dates and
times.

We're thinking of moving our Java application away from proprietary
connectivity to Oracle to using JDBC. The application will eventually
be
deployed to hundreds of client workstations. Anyone using JDBC care to
comment on their experiences or what we need to know at the planning
stage? We're interested (of course!) in stability, reliability and
performance.

Many thanks for any insights!

Thanks
- Bill.
