Just listened to a talk by Kevin Loney (noted Oracle author). Table-table data movement (alter table move) is the fastest way to move data in Oracle. How much faster depends on your system. My experience says twice as fast is a safe guess. Cost justifying an upgrade?? What ogres do you work for? Dennis Williams DBA Lifetouch, Inc. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
-----Original Message----- Sent: Friday, October 26, 2001 2:55 PM To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L tablespace command I am doing a cost justification for upgrading a data warehouse from 8.0.4 to 8.1.7. I need to submit it today and don't have time to do a test on a very large table. Does anyone have anecdotal evidence or experience in the time difference required to reorg a tablespace using the export/import table method versus alter table move to a new tablespace method? Thanks for any time quotes you can provide. I'm especially interested in very large tables and tablespaces.
