This is from a tar I opened with Oracle:

Kimberly,
My name is Eddie and I will be assisting you with this tar. Oracle Server
versions 8.0.5.x and earlier are officially dessupported, so no
compatibility testing was performed on them. I would expect OEM 9i to work
in the configuration that you explained, but this is not certified so
compatibility issues may be present. Oracle Server 8.1.5.x is also
desupported so it would follow the same guidlines.
Oracle Server 8.0.6.x, 8.1.6.x, 8.1.7.x and 9i are officially supported and
certified for use with version 9i OEM.
Besides the certification issues, having an Oracle Intelligent Agent
monitoring one or more seperate Oracle Homes on a server is a design feature
of the Oracle Intelligent Agent.
Eddie

I am trying to autodiscover a server in the OEM console in an 8.1.7.2
database on Sun Solaris 2.6.
The databases on the other host are 8.0.4, 8.1.5, 8.1.7.2, and 9.0.1. I
am using an 9.0.1 Intelligent Agent
on the remote host where I want to monitor. When I try to autodiscover, I
get the following error:
Discovery Failed: VNI-4050: Agent is running, but version is not
compatible.

I looked this error up on Metalink and found the following compatibility
matrix. It would appear that the
8.1.7 Intelligent Agent is not compatible with 8.0.4 RDBMS. However, I am
using a 9.0.1 Intelligent Agent.
I couldn't find a similar compatibility matrix for 9i. Does anyone else
know where I can find it.

Also, is anyone successfully using a 9.0.1 Intelligent Agent against an
8.0.4 database? If you are, what
version of other components are you using? What version of RDMBS's are
you successfully monitoring?

Certification |

|==========================================================================
  |The following matrix lists the releases of Oracle Enterprise Manager and
  |its management applications that have been certified to work with
  |particular versions of the Oracle Management Server (OMS). If a release
is |
  |certified with a particular OMS, then a "yes" is placed for that entry.
If |
  |an OMS is not certified for a specific release, then the entry is a "no".
  | Console/Apps OMS 2.0.4 OMS 2.1.0 OMS 2.2.0

  |OMS to Intelligent Agent Certification

  |The following matrix lists the releases of the Oracle Management Server
and|

  |Intelligent Agent to Database Certification
  |===========================================
  |The Intelligent Agent is compatible with the database with which it is
  |released and prior database releases. For circumstances where a newer
  |release of the Intelligent Agent is used to manage an older release of
the |
  |database, the Agent must be installed in its own ORACLE_HOME, or one
whose |
  |version is consistent with the Intelligent Agent's version. Older
releases |
  |of the Intelligent Agent are not compatible with newer releases of the
  |Oracle database.

  |Note 1 : Certification of release 8.0.3 was not carried out by
development,|
  | Oracle Support Services thus recommends customers upgrade to a
  | later release.
  |Note 2 : Certification of 8.0.4 and 8.0.5 was not carried out for 8.1.7
  | Intelligent Agents, because these releases had already entered
  | extended care support by the time 8.1.7 was released.
  |Note 3 : On Windows NT 7.3.4 Intelligent Agents can only be installed in
  | the DEFAULT 7.3.4 Oracle home
  |Note 4 : Oracle 8.0.4, 8.0.5 and 8.0.6 Intelligent Agents on Windows NT
can|
  | be installed in a 7.3.4 home or in their own home. This feature
  | does not apply to 8.1.x Agents.
