Thanks Samir,

I found this a bit confusing ... why because for one of the indexes, this is
from dba_extents ...

select segment_name, bytes, count(extent_id)
 from dba_extents
where segment_name = 'STAT_TOTALS_PK'
group by segment_name, bytes
order by bytes

Segment Name Bytes No Of Extents
-------------------------------------------
STAT_TOTALS_PK 1048576 49
STAT_TOTALS_PK 5242880 1
STAT_TOTALS_PK 6291456 1
STAT_TOTALS_PK 8388608 121

So, I have 49 extents of 1M, 1 extent of 5M and 6M each and 121 extents of
8M. When I rebuild the index (using alter index), I asked for initial extent
of 512M, but that was ignored .... Why would there be an extent of 5M & 6M?
The db is 9i and tablespace is lmt autoallocate.

Thanks in advance for ideas ...

Raj
