Hi,

Your question is quite general, what kind of backup Cold or Hot.

Simple solution

you do export then tar to tape (or copy to somewhere elese you want)

or "shutdown your database" do tar to tape (or copy out all your database
files + control files + redo log + archive redo log + your executable files
like sql+, svrmgrl, exp, imp), yes your database must be down it you do
this.
