hmmm..HP....

do a "man -k dlm" and find something
like 'dlmstats'. It'll be a 'big' command
with lots of cmd line flags. That should
get/find you lock up/down converts.

Go to the specifics from there. Expect to
find "most" of your converts are from null
to shared, or vice versa...then, an order
magniture (at least) fewer from shared to
exclusive, etc. That's normal.

Most decent dlmstats utilities will give
you rudimentary waits and statistics. See
if everything seems copacetic there.

There are (although i honestly do NOT think this
is your issue) UDP internode comms parameters that might be optimized up to,
say, 256K-size
send/receive buffers.

What I'd look at is is the OS dlm version and
patching and *its* kernel settings. I know nothing about HP, so maybe one of
the truly
informed on the list can chime in on that.

If, OTOH, you are in a version of Oracle that
internalizes the dlm (9i for sure, e.g.) then
you'll likely have more knobs and dials to
twist there.

hope these hazily recalled, partially correct, and potentially irrelevant
comments prove useful, if only as an example of what *not* to
do.

Ross,

The HP info for one of the two nodes is, HP-UX proteus B.11.00 U 9000/800.

As to the conversion stats, how do I determine/obtain those ?

I'll have to get the kernal setting tomorrow; I'm working from home today,
so no hard-copy.

just out of curiosity, what flavor of Unix?
What are your dlm lock conversion statistics?
what are your OS kernel settings for udp buffers at?

Hello,

Anyone out there having fun on OPS with the dlm resource hash list ORA-600
and ORA-603 errors. We are getting them more frequently with increased load
on the system. See below for some particulars. The really bad part is having
a critical process die with the 603 error.

applicable init.ora parameters:

lm_locks                = 180000
lm_ress                 = 120000
dml_locks               = 7250
_lm_direct_sends        = lkmgr
