I have configured various buffer sizes, the real issue has to be memory
related.  So far the swap increase seems to have helped but I won't really
know to I work through some more rigorous scenarios to simulate the
conditions in place last night.  From read the AIX stuff I just know it
handles memory quite differently from other OS's and wondered if I should be
looking at tweaking it for working with large datafiles as opposed to
regular apps. - E

You can set your buffer size to 10000 and put commit=y into your parfile.
This may help.
