Your right I usually set sort_area_size to 10 MB on a OneWorld system, I am monitoring disk sorts and really have not incurrered that many but this should be increased. Why do you think retained is too big? I actually increased it. If someone uses 8 MB for a sort I want it to fall back to 3-4 MB or so assuming they might need another sort. Sorts are so rare that this really won't use much memory on my system. I agree if you have 500 users all performing sorts then you would want it smaller so that the memory if freed up. - Ethan -- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.com -- Author: Mohan, Ross INET: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fat City Network Services -- (858) 538-5051 FAX: (858) 538-5051 San Diego, California -- Public Internet access / Mailing Lists -------------------------------------------------------------------- To REMOVE yourself from this mailing list, send an E-Mail message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (note EXACT spelling of 'ListGuru') and in the message BODY, include a line containing: UNSUB ORACLE-L (or the name of mailing list you want to be removed from).
