Two reasons I've noticed:
(a) It rhymes.
(b) After the 10th time you've tried to access something and
found it inaccessable in a maze of sales pitches it's
rather easy to get fed up.
(c) After the N[usually >> 10]th time a "free" download has
crawled to a stop or aborted leaving you unable to access
the software it's also rather easy to get fed up. In
however many years the thing has been online I've never
been able to download anything of substance. This becomes
even more grating when the only answer I've gotten back
from Oracle on the problem is to buy the things on CD
or try again later -- which makes users just *so* happy
with me...
As a download service it, well... stinks. If they want to whine
about high bandwidth demands, fine, then don't offer the (*^&^
service in the first place; capacity planning doesn't require
much more than arithmetic. The art of web archetecture isn't
*that* complicated either. Applying one or both of these would
probably reduce the monikers. Hell, they might even make people
happy...
