Hello Kimberly,

RMAN doesn't put *anything* into hot backup mode
(read-only or not) during a "hot" backup, so a
readonly tspace can be backed up as per any other
tablespace.  

Because has access to the SGA, rman can take advantage
of being able to get a consistent image of a block
without worrying about backup modes et al..
