If my memory serves me correctly, didn't this value used to be 'CACHE' and NULL?  That would explain the 5 char length.  Anybody have 805 available to test it?

Maybe some of the database engine source code is written in COBOL and needs those blank spaces at the beginning for an accurate comparison? Or are you calling achaudhr a chowderhead?  :-)

If it's any consolation, DBA_LOBS.CACHE is 'YES' or 'NO'.
