Moving Files Around

Hello:   I have read and tried (sorry newbie) the procedures involved with moving control files, database files, etc.  But I have never seen any reference to how to move the instance reference to the parameter file.  Whenever had to move a db I've always done at least some exp/imp.  I was wondering if anyone could share with me how to move the instance refernce to the parameter file.  I'd very much be interested in how to do this on a Win2k box running 8.1.6.   Regards, Jay
