thanks - turns out I think that UDS needs the ORACLE_HOME environment variable set, which conflicts with multiple ORACLE_HOME directories. When I set it manaully it runs fine.

We upgraded (a laptop in this case) from oracle 7.3.4 to 8.1.6. It seems that Magic has a specific drive that depends on the oracle version.
