We had the same problem with BackupExec.  The problem is that your SA needs
to EXCLUDE ALL ACTIVE ORACLE DB FILES from backup!  The philosophy of
filesystems on Winders is far from multi-user.  All the backup programs I've
seen in Winders (granted, that's not many) put LOCKS on files when backing
them up!  Oracle doesn't like this much, especially during a checkpoint.

Anyway, the backup software doesn't need to touch the live DB files anyway,
as it does not guarantee that they will be restorable.  Choose hot backups,
cold backups, export, etc. instead.

I'll bet you a case of Virtual Beer that it's your backup software.
Most likely you are using Arcserve, correct?

It's misconfigured and/or broken, and definately not the best 
backup solution around.

Hi all..........
 
My database is going down frequently  showing this error in alertfile . 
This  is happening to different datafiles and controlfiles.
What are the possibilities that cause this error ? How can i avoid this 
error ?
 
oracle 8.1.7 in win2k

ORA-00206: error in writing (block 3, # blocks 1) of controlfile
ORA-00202: controlfile: 'D:\ORADATA\CONTROL01.CTL'
ORA-27072: skgfdisp: I/O error
OSD-04008: WriteFile() failure, unable to write to file
O/S-Error: (OS 33) The process cannot access the file because another 
process has locked a portion of the file.
