I had to do a
STARTUP MOUNT
RECOVER DATABASE
That fixed it and I'm back up and running.

I have a 8.1.7 database running on NT 4.0 that had a problem this morning and shut
itself down. In the <SID>Alert.log I have the following error.

error=27072 txt: 'OSD-04008: WriteFile() failure, unable to write to file

DBW0: terminating instance due to error 1242
Instance terminated by DBW0, pid = 287
This is a new for me. Any ideas what I am dealing with?
