I still like to recommend the buffer cache hit ratio because its so easy to please customers with an improvement - A plsql routine to generate any desired hit ratio on a running system is freely available for download from my site... a consultants dream! :-)
But, serious hat on temporarily, there IS still a use for the buffer hit ratio as a "delta" measurement. What I mean by this is that you measure it every 'n' mins/hrs/whatever and store it. When it displays a massive dip or a massive increase (ie something out of the ordinary for *your* system), then whilst it doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong - it DOES mean that something has changed in your system, which is a good prompt to do some investigation.. hth connor --- John Kanagaraj <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Mark, > > This is from a first-timer at IOUG, so I may be way > off here. > > A lot of marketing blurb was thrown out at IOUG > (probably a lot less than > usual, and *much* less than Oracle OpenWorld in any > case!).
