Actually, like most everything else, it depends on platform and version. OpenVMS, for example, will not recreate the file. In this case, you must:
1) lsnrctl set log_file temp_name 2) rename $ORACLE_HOME/network/log/listener.log to something else. 3) lsnrctl set log_file listener (no ".log"!) This should work for Oracle 8.x. Not sure about other versions.
